The Belenos project

It is considered to be a great part of the Physical Engineering section, because it promotes renewable energies and sustainable development by opening up new horizons. Students in the first and second year of physical engineering at Polytech' Clermont-Ferrand are working hard on this solar car prototype.

The solar car by itself

Single-seater prototype, the Belenos vehicle is a solar-powered car which can reach 53 miles per hour on the road. The hood of the car is covered by high-efficiency solar cells for an area of almost 54 square feet. Brakes and suspensions are divided on the three wheels. Finally, the total weight without driver is 396 lbs.

Main goals for the future

Taking advantage of a strong basis that had been already built by the previous team, the new group mainly aims to improve the performances of the vehicle. The other goal is to obtain an accreditation in order to be able to drive on the french roads.
